What fishing gear will you observe being used?
Longline
The longline consists of a fishing line along which numerous hooks placed at the branches. The longline can be placed close to the bottom, between the sea surface and the bottom, or on the sea surface.
The longline is a static tool and is placed with floats.
The fish that are usually caught with the longline are: two-banded seabream, saddled seabream, white seabream, gilt-head bream, red porgy
Static bottom nets
Static nets are either gill nets or seine nets.
The gillnets are made of only one sheet of net rigged to the top and bottom rope, sledgehammer and gillnet respectively. They are placed vertically in the water column with floats on the surface and weights at the bottom. They are anchored until the end of fishing.
Seine nets consist of three sheets of netting. The central one has smaller opening, while the two on either side are larger and have larger opening. The length of the two outer nets is longer and thus looser than the central one. Fish are more effectively entangled in these nets.
The fish that are usually caught with the seine nets are: bogue, pandora, Mediterranean parrotfish, surmullet
Rod-line
During the wait, passengers can fish with a rod or line, depending on the personal gear available to the fisherman.
And what about the fish we will catch?
The catch belongs to the fisherman. But you can buy some fish and to taste them at the cooperating restaurants at the port.
