A Botanical Garden and an exhibition center will be established at the premises of the Agadaki Estate, near the Apoikia village. The estate occupies an area of 8,000 m2, and includes a fully restored historical building (Agadaki Tower) and a traditional stone-built olive-oil mill.
A living collection of representative, rare, endemic and threatened plant species of Andros island will be established in the Botanical Garden, which will include:
- a detailed representation of all important plant species of the alluvial alder forests,
- aromatic and medicinal native plants of Andros,
- various species of macrofungi autochthonous of Andros island, acting as natural ground for promoting knowledge about fungal diversity, mushrooms life cycle, ecological importance, ability to recycle natural waste products and more.
In total at least 200 native plant species of Andros are expected to be cultivated.
In addition, a plant nursery for the propagation of alder and other keystone plant species of the alluvial alder forests will operate within the premises.
An exhibition center will also operate at the Agapaki Estate, which will be open to the public during the whole year. A number of public presentations and events will be organized.
