New study on Andros’ mushrooms

A quarter-century of Andros’ mushrooms study reveals the unique richness of alder forests. In total, 106 mushroom species associated with alders were recorded, of which 21 new national records.
Beach cleaning on Andros

16 groups and entities of Andros organized the cleaning of 4 beaches of the island. In total 112 volunteers participated and collected about 360 kg of marine litter.

A new plant species discovery on Andros

At the alder habitat at Vourkoti, Dr. Panagiotis Trigas discovered a new-to-science plant species. It is a species of wild onion. Mr. Trigas named it Allium stamatiadae, in honour of the Andriot botanist Elli Mandaraka-Stamatiadou.

Mushroom tour

A mushroom tour was held at the area of Arni and Remata by the teams of LIFE Andros Park, Andros Routes and the Cultural Society of Arni. 45 walkers participated, collected mushrooms and were informed on mushrooms, their identification, their importance for biodiversity and the particular relationship of some of them with alders.

On October 15, Dr. Elias Polemis (Agricultural University of Athens) accompanied the hikers on the Apikia-Pithara waterfall-Katakalei-Vourkoti route, guiding them to the plant and mushroom world along the route. On October 16, the festival’s day started with a visit to the Agadaki estate at Apikia.

An excursion for the observation of wild plants of Andros Island was organized at the area of Arni and Remata by the teams of LIFE Andros Park and Andros Routes. 41 walkers participated and were informed on alders, the project and discovered the botanical treasures of Andros Island. .
The first phase of tree planting in the alder forests of Andros Island has been completed

Paraporti beach cleaning #Trashtag Challenge

Despite the cold and windy weather, 50 volunteers cleaned the beach of Paraporti on Sunday with enthusiasm and good spirit. In total more than 400 kg of marine litter was collected.

March 2-3, mask making workshops were organized in collaboration with the Andrion Club (Chora) and the Parent and guardian club of the Gavrio primary school (Gavrio). 60 children learned, transformed into and imitated the Audouin’s Gull, the Mediterranean Shag, Mediterranean Monk Seal, and had fun.

Visit to the marine caves of Andros island

Researchers of MOm visited all the marine caves, shelters of the Mediterranean Monk Seal, at the project area in January to check the installed automated cameras and collect data about the species.
Beach cleaning at Vori bay
